Epitome of Domestication

Yep, that’s ME!

Not normally, but lately I’ve been nothing short of a house wife, minus the fact that I’m not literally a wife and I am still employed full-time. Domestication has taken over my body. No, this was not a New Years resolution, but I do admit, I’m liking it.

So far this year -

  • I’ve learned how to crochet, thanks to my chrochetMOM!- I don’t know what type of stitch I learned or how many other stitches exist, but the fact still remains, I can crochet. My grandma crocheted blankets and slippers throughout my childhood. It was something we kids, her grandkids and her children, hoped to get every Christmas. This past Christmas she gave my daughter her first crocheted blanket. It must have been this gift that influenced her to want to give our soon-to-be-created crocheted scarves to the homeless next Christmas. What an inspiration.  bread
  • I baked my first loaf of bread, well my new hand-me-down bread machine baked my first loaf of bread, and it was a success – Whole Wheat Honey Oat Bread. Bread machines are genius. Literally, all you do is add the ingredients to the pan, press some buttons, and it does all the work for you. I think I have figured out what I’ll be gifting next year for Christmas.
  • I’ve cooked one meal per night this week. Believe it or not, that’s impressive for me!weeklyfoodboard And all have turned out tasty. I decided to make a new board on Pinterest to plan my weekly meals – What I’m Cooking This Week. I’m simply looking through my food board and re-pinning what I’d like to make during my week. It’s much easier to compile my grocery list now and pull up this board to reference the recipe. After all what’s the point of Pinterest if you don’t actually use your pins.
  • I cleaned my oven for the first time since we’ve moved into this apartment. It’s not as gross as it sounds. I didn’t use it too often and it’s always lined with foil so there wasn’t much of a disaster mess, but it still needed it.

I plan to become more domesticated as the year progresses too. I’m going to learn how to sew and knit. And, I think I might even add another board to Pinterest – This Month’s DIY Projects. There’s just too many good ideas out there to not put to use.

Anyone taking on new things in the New Year?

  1. I’d be happy to teach you how to sew!! And to use a machine. Sometimes learning how to work the darn things is the hardest part! Haha!
