Cold, Cold Go Away

If you woke up this week with a sore throat, I know you’re feeling the same way I am.

Cold, cold go away
Please be gone before Christmas Day!

I’ve been following the remedies below for the past couple days and I can honestly tell you I’m feeling better already.

  1. Drink Water - Prevent dehydration while keeping your throat moist and breaking up congestion. “You should drink at least 8 to 10 eight-ounce glasses of water daily.” Limit caffeinated drinks since they are a diuretic and could lead to dehydration.
  2. Put Back the OJ - And get your C from a vitamin. Because of its high sugar content, OJ may actually be doing more harm than good. “According to one study, when you consume 100 grams of carbohydrates in the forms of glucose, fructose, sucrose, orange juice, or honey, you significantly reduce the function of white blood cells that contribute to a healthy immune system.”
  3. Eat This Chicken Soup - It acts as an anti-inflammatory and temporarily speeds up the movement of mucus.
  4. Buy Zinc Gluconate Lozenges - “A Cochrane review concluded that “zinc is beneficial in reducing the duration and severity of the common cold in healthy people, when taken within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.”

Here’s to ringing in the New Year cold-free, and hopefully looking nothing like that  guy.

  1. As soon as I feel any signs of a cold coming on — tickle in my throat, aches, overly tired, a desire to watch the original “Red Dawn” — and I know something is very wrong, I take four Vitamin Cs and repeat that for a couple of days. Ninety percent of the time, it goes away.
